Fantastic news for all guests travelling to Rwanda! Effective January 1st 2018, Rwanda launched a new regime which allows all nationals travelling to Rwanda a 30 day visa on arrival in Kigali.
The Rwandan Immigration Authority announced that the new policy is set to increase Rwanda’s openness and accessibility to the rest of the world and to increase trade and tourism. Previously, only African citizens and a few other countries had the privilege to receive visas at Rwanda’s entry points without prior application. Foreign Minister Louise Mushikiwabo states that “The new visa regime opens Rwanda to the world and is good for business. Rwanda believes that the free movement of people fosters trade and tourism, and is good for the continent’s integration policy. We are aware of the challenges of open borders, but as a country, we also believe that the benefits of our policy outweigh the potential setbacks.”
The current 30 day tourist visa costs US$ 30. Under the new visa regime and with immediate effect, citizens of Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, East African Community Partner States, Guinea, Indonesia, Haiti, Mauritius, Philippines, Senegal, Seychelles, Singapore and Sao Tome and Principe do not need a visa to enter Rwanda for stays less than 90 days.
